WoD Lecture RMIT AGDA Where You At

About this Event

‘WHOLE of DISCIPLINE’, or WoD, is a long-running initiative by RMIT’s Communication Design department; a lecture series that serves as a space for knowledge sharing between emerging and established designers.

This year marks the very first time the event has been opened up to a wider audience outside of the student cohort, in an effort to share this opportunity with the broader community.

This semester’s WoD aims to build on the foundation of past lectures while shifting the emphasis away from the purely technical side of design discourse; focusing less on the work itself and more about the life of it.

To borrow and adapt a phrase by Groucho Marx, “Learn from the choices of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself”

Lecture No. 1, ‘Where You At?’

This talk involves designers who have graduated University in the last 5 years, all covering a different facet of industry; from the corporate to the more artistically inclined.

The main question: ‘Has entering the industry challenged your notions of success and failure; and has it affected your understanding of the role designers can play in the world?’

Panelists:

Erin Tan: Experience Strategist, at Publicis Sapient

Lisa Vu: UX/UI Designer, at Ernst & Young

Kit Tran: Designer and Art Director, at Y–M–D (Years Months Days)

Storytelling and trade has always occurred on these lands, and we acknowledge the Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung language groups of eastern Kulin, on whose unceded lands design and business continues here in Melbourne. In response to the Countries we work and live on across Australia, we respectfully acknowledge these Nations and language groups, and their Ancestors and Elders, past and present.
