Marco Eychenne

Creative Director

Romeo Digital

“I was born in Lyon, France - thousands of kilometres from Brisbane, and even further away from the bright and exotic pictures I had in my mind of what Australia might be. For as long as I can remember, my head was filled with pictures like this: of places and things and people and ideas. Pictures were always how I interpreted the world around me, how I expressed my thoughts and feelings, how I analysed concepts and ideas, and even how I solved problems”.

Marco graduated in 1995 with a Masters in Fine Arts from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, a public university of art and design and one of the most prestigious French grandes écoles.

Since then, he has shared his love of art and creativity between his two strong passions - working with brands to create memorable and engaging digital experiences on the one hand, and creating unique pieces of art that merge his free-flowing drawings with his photographic work on the other.

Marco worked in the Sydney advertising world for 10 years, before recently accepting the role in Brisbane as creative director of one of Brisbane’s most successful digital experience agencies, ROMEO.

Since arriving in Australia, Marco’s brand work has won more than 100 awards, both nationally and internationally. In 2017, he was voted one of 20 creative minds in the AdNews Creativity List. With ROMEO, Marco won best of show at the 2019 AMY Awards, a Webby Honoree, a Good Design Award in Social Impact and multiple other recognitions at the BADC Awards for work for the Queensland Museum (ANZAC Correspondent AR App) and Surf Life Saving Queensland (Life-Fi).

“I love creating experiences that are people-centric – to genuinely put people first and create real substance in the relationship between a brand, a location and its visitors. For me, that is the magic of creativity – the power of empathy; the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

My experience in digital has enhanced my understanding of what people like and respond to – this is a big motivation for me as I’ve always had a great curiosity about people. An equally powerful motivator is the challenge of transforming a problem into a solution."

Marco will be presenting at Design that gives a f*ck!, in Brisbane on Thursday 26 March. RSVP for Design that gives a f*ck! here.
